Land Exchange

lands_saved4_webThumbWithin the boundaries of our  National Forests there are many  privately owned properties or “inholdings.”  Among these inholdings are highly sensitive sites, originally homesteaded for their abundance of water and natural resources, attributes that make these properties immensely valuable to the Forest Service in their rolls as stewards of both land and wildlife.

These same attributes, however, often make these pieces desirable for private development and a balance must be found that serves the public interest.

Many times, the public is best served through a process directed by the U.S. Forest Service called a “land exchange” in which, through a careful and thorough process,  these unique inholdings are traded by their private owners for other properties from the Forest Service.

"Summit Resources, LLC is proud to have had so much experience in helping bring exchanges to successful conclusion."

The properties selected by the Forest Service for these trades are typically exposed to urban influences and have varying degrees of management or resource limitation that make them less desirable for conservation and more desirable for private development.

A successful exchange ends in the Forest Service conserving and consolidating ecologically valuable lands traded for, from a management and conservation standpoint, more problematic pieces.  Likewise, the private land owner has received property that lends itself to development with the lowest impact on our natural resources.
